Following the mediator's opening statement or a more comprehensive introductory session, here is a structure for beginning the consideration of substantive issues:

1. Finalize the Agreement to Mediate

2. Confirm Process Agreements (Suggested Ground Rules)

3. Identify Desired Information and Documentation

4. Share Perspectives

5. Separate Out Relational Issues for Acknowledgment 6. Identify and Expand Mutual Interests, Interdependence, and Points of Agreement

7. Confirm Open Issues as Problem Solving Agenda 8. Discuss and Negotiate Open Issues (in joint and caucus sessions) Goals, Interests and Positive Intentions Options for Resolution Principles, Standards, Criteria, Rationales, Alternatives

9. Integrate: Any possible mutually acceptable improvements?

10. Draft and Refine Solutions
